Kitchen Support

Job Description: The Kitchen Support staff will work with our Kitchen Manager/Lead Chef and other School Nutrition Team members. The Kitchen support staff is a dedicated professional who re-envisions the way food is served to children in schools. The Kitchen Support staff must be able to follow instructions from our Kitchen Manager/Lead Chef regarding the National School Lunch Program dietary guidelines, bring creativity, passion, a collaborative attitude, and tenacity to build a better model for school food.
Responsibilities:
Food Service
- Work with Kitchen Manager/Lead Chef to safely execute healthy school meals and snacks
- Pilot new menu items with students, occasionally preparing taste tests for students
- Ability to cook in large quantities (apx. 500 individuals)
- Collaborate with other staff, assist in training staff on meal preparation techniques and equipment usage
- Keep facilities clean, safe, and follow food safety protocols
- Prepare the meals on time and serve them in a timely manner
- Maintain a high level of quality
- Prep, Deliver and pick-up meals from classrooms
- Assist in the lunch line with student pin numbers
Food Nutrition Ambassador
- Engage with Mundo Verde community and create food engagement opportunities, occasional classes and networking events
- Positively represent the Mundo Verde food program in the community
- Some evening and weekend events
Qualifications of an Ideal Candidate
Required
- Culinary degree or at least 2 years working in a kitchen
- Advanced or Native proficiency of English
- Demonstrated interest in working with children ages 3-11
- Desire and commitment to learn National School Lunch Program guidelines
- Collaborative mentality and positive attitude
- Must be able to repetitively lift 30 pounds and make decisions in accordance with established procedures

Other Job Details
- Schedule: Mundo Verde's core hours of operations are 7:50 AM - 4:30 PM when students are in the building. However, your schedule may vary slightly depending on when your supervisor asks you to report to work based on your responsibilities.
- Location: Assigned campus
- Position Type: This is a 12-month salaried position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
- Employment subject to TB test, fingerprinting and background check
